WATER QUALITY QUESTIONS:
My water tastes, looks and smells funny, is it safe to drink?
All public water systems in the state of Texas are required to maintain a minimum chlorine level of 0.5 (tested at the end of the system) by state law. We maintain a level of 2.0 through 3.0 at the source (tested at the beginning of the system). Our chlorine levels are tested daily to ensure safety. Unless you hear of a "boil water" notice from an emergency situation, your water will always be safe to drink.
What do I do if I am experiencing low pressure?
First, check your meter and surrounding area for possible leaks. Second, call our office and report low pressure for your area.
Why does debris come out of the faucet when running hot water?
Most likely your water heater needs to be flushed. This should be done once a year. CAUTION: If you plan on doing this yourself, read the owners manual to keep from being harmed and/or damaging the water heater.
Why does my water taste, look and smell funny?
Once there has been an interruption in service (line breaks and water flow has stopped) this sensitive chemical (chlorine) releases an odor and smell that will take several days to clear up.
Why is my water milky in color?
A repair could have been completed recently allowing air to enter the line, causing the milky look.
Any tips for flushing my water heater?
1. Turn off the power or gas to the heater.
2. Close the cold water supply valve. It usually located at the top of the unit.
3. Connect a garden hose to the drain valve located near the bottom of the tank. Run the hose somewhere that you can drain the water, CAUTION (It may be hot at first).
4. Open the drain valve to discharge the water inside the tank. It will probably have some particles in it.
5. After the tank is empty, close the drain valve and open the cold water supply valve. Turn on the power or gas.
Why is there "white particals" or "white Paper" in my shower heads or faucets?
1. They may be bits of calcium carbonate scale coming from your water heater. The scaling may be worened because the water heater thermostat is too high. Most manufacturers recommend setting it at about 120*F. If the particles are calcium carbonate, you probably need to flush your water heater. Most manufacturers recommend that you do this twice per year.
2. They may be pieces of plastic from the dip tube in your water heater. The dip tube takes the cold water from the supply at the top of the tank down to the bottom of the tank to be heated. Some dip tubes were made of inferior plastic.
